Biography projects online

Picture
The kids did an amazing job of putting together informative, entertaining, and insightful biography presentations. Their subjects ranged from Leonardo Da Vinci to Kurt Cobain, and their projects included websites, powerpoint presentations, stop-motion animation, live-action movies, handmade books, posters, music, a coreographed gymnastics routine with a doll, and good old-fashioned reports.   Many of the biography projects and the question-and-answer sessions are available here on the projects page. Because the page contains a lot of video of the kids themselves, I put a password on it. The password is the same as the one to access your child's website.

You are What You Live - our first PBL project

Picture
We've just finished the first section of our first PBL unit: You Are What You Live.

You can read about the project on my blog.

You can see photos of the posters the kids created from the first phase of the project on the project page.

On each student's website (accessible here) is an "Explorations" blog. One entry on the blog is a response to a guiding question related to this first phase of the project.

Student websites posted

Student websites are now accessible from a portal on this site. Go to the Student Work tab and select "Websites."

You can select any student's name to go to his or her site. Each site is password protected, and your child can give that password to anyone they choose.

I encourage you to check out the sites, read their blog posts, make comments, and give your child feedback about the site.

Song for Monday

For our Monday Morning Meeting, I'm going to sing a song to the school. I've invited the kids in my class to sing it with me.  We only got to do it once on Friday, so I'm uploading the video and lyrics here. Anyone is welcome to watch, learn, and join us on Monday for the song.

Click here to see a video of the song and read the lyrics.

Each week, I'll assign a student to be our class photographer. At the end of the week, I'll have that student upload a selection of pictures to our classroom gallery page.  Cooper had the honors this week, but he didn't have a chance to select the photos. I'm uploading shots that he took this week, and I'm adding a few of my own. Click here to go to the gallery page.  There are also a few videos of our first reading buddy day.

Welcome to a New Year!

Picture
To start the year off right, here's a picture of a double rainbow. I took this picture from the window of my OLD classroom (room 305).  This year, I've moved across the hall to Mrs. Leckie's old room (room 309). It's a great move - it doesn't start out the day too hot, and it has a great view toward the Olympics.

Feel free to poke around on this site, but there's not much here yet. You can start with my first blog post, if you're so inclined. Please feel free to comment.

You can also fill out my student info survey. I'll be asking all parents and guardians for this information. You can either enter it here, or you can wait to get the paper form when I send it home on the first day.
